DAILY DEVOTIONAL

For you, Lord, bless the righteous, and surround him with your goodness as a shield.

Psalms 5:12

You surround me, behind and in front, and lay your hand on me.

Psalms 139:5

It is common to hear this phrase in many action movies, in police confrontations and searches. David also lived several dangerous situations, besieged, needing to fight or flee from mortal enemies. But, contrary to what we see in these scenarios of threat, danger and tension, the Bible tells us of a different siege: God surrounds those who trust with kindness and protection.

In these psalms David declares that God is the shield that surrounds his righteous. Despite all the risk and distress they face, the presence of the Lord keeps the heart at peace and security. So too, we can trust that God surrounds us on all sides. As if in a protective embrace, the Lord constantly helps us and surrounds us with his faithful love.

Surrounded and cared for by God

- Pray to the Lord asking Him to protect you and keep you from all dangers and violence.

- Trust that He is present, and also sends His angels, to guard you from all harm.

- Read 2 Kings 6:14-17 and see how God overcomes our limited perception. - Even if you feel surrounded by problems and dangers, remember that God is much bigger than all that. Greater is What is with you, believe me!

To Pray: Lord God, We know that in the midst of adversity fear arises, but it makes us control it as well as the anxiety of our hearts. Open our eyes so that we realize that you are always with us. Father, help me to trust that you sustain my life and surround me with your mighty hand. Guard our hearts from evil, Lord, and protect us from all dangers. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
