DAILY DEVOTIONAL

"And the Pharisees, seeing this, asked the disciples: Why does your Master eat with tax collectors and sinners? But Jesus, hearing this, replied: The healthy need not be doctors, but the sick need. Go, therefore, and learn which means: I want mercy, not sacrifices. Because I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners. "Matthew 9: 11-13

THOUGHT: In these words of Jesus is the key to understanding the Gospel: I want mercy, not sacrifice. What Jesus shows us is that God is merciful to people. Nobody escapes the love of the Father: the poor, the rich, the white, the black, the divorced, the married, the evangelical, the Catholic. What matters is that we are all called to the knowledge of God. Matthew understood the call and changed his life. The presence of Jesus in his life rescued him from the power of sin, gave him the possibility of a new life and he did not let the opportunity pass, he followed Jesus for the rest of his life.

Prayer: Lord God, teach me that your mercy and grace are sufficient in my life. For I believe that the blood of Jesus shed on the cross cleanses me from all sin, I understand that He took our pains and infirmities, and brought life and peace to my heart. I thank you, for my sins are already forgiven, and it is not through sacrifices that I have to achieve salvation, but it is through His mercy. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
