DAILY DEVOTIONAL

And the Pharisees, seeing this, asked the disciples: Why does your Master eat with tax collectors and sinners? But Jesus, hearing this, answered: The healthy do not need a physician, but the sick. Go, then, and learn what it means: I want mercy, not sacrifices. Because I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.'

Matthew 9:11-13

Thoughts: In these words of Jesus is the key to understanding the Gospel: I want Mercy, not sacrifice. What Jesus shows us is that God is merciful to people. No one escapes the Father's love: the poor, the rich, the white, the black, the evangelical, the Catholic, etc... What matters is that we are all called to the knowledge of God. Matthew understood the call and changed his life. The presence of Jesus in his life rescued him from the power of sin, gave him the possibility of a new life and he did not let the opportunity pass, he followed Jesus for the rest of his life.

PRAYER: Lord God, teach me that Your mercy and Your grace are sufficient on earth. For I believe that the blood of Jesus shed on the cross cleanses me from all sin, I understand that He took our pains and our infirmities upon Himself, and brought life and peace to my heart. I thank you, because my sins are already forgiven, when I met you and it is not through sacrifices that I have to reach salvation, but through Your mercy. I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
